Cornerstone College is committed to learning excellence
As our final Pillar proclaims:
“We understand how young people learn and grow, the need to encourage and the time to challenge. Cornerstone empowers every student to be an exceptional learner.”
Our commitment to excellence is not just about achieving outstanding results; it is fundamentally about ensuring that our students become exceptional learners.
Learning is a lifelong journey. It begins the moment we enter the world and never truly ends. Before a child ever steps into a classroom, they learn that crying gets the attention of loving parents, walking opens new opportunities, talking fosters connection, and even how (un)intentionally frustrating siblings and family members, has quite the impact!
At Cornerstone, we take an individual approach to learning. Any parent with more than one child knows that what works for one may not work for another. Traditionally, schools have assumed that if a concept is taught the same way to every child, every child will learn it. However, research and our own experiences as learners tell us that this approach simply does not work. At present, Cornerstone has 759 students, each engaged in their own unique learning journey. What makes learning at Cornerstone special is not just our commitment to academic excellence, but our dedication to supporting each student as an individual. As the Bible reminds us, each of us is uniquely created, and that uniqueness is honoured and celebrated in the Cornerstone learning journey.
Exceptional learning means that students take ownership of their education and personal growth. They embrace challenges, collaborate with teachers, peers, and the broader community, and find meaning in their studies. Our students understand how their learning connects to the world around them and how it equips them to make an impact. This year, we are excited to reinvigorate our approach to learning, ensuring that we are not only providing students with knowledge but also equipping them with the skills necessary to become lifelong learners. We are looking forward to sharing more of this critical work as the year continues to unfold.
In the story that accompanies our new messaging focus, we express the following:
“Cornerstone values ensure every child is known and celebrated as an individual. We work closely with families to nurture young people who are not just successful but also kind, compassionate, and ready to make an impact.”
This brings us back to the heart of our values and where I begin every Principal's tour of the College: Cornerstone College exists to support families in raising decent human beings.
Decent human beings are lifelong learners; they possess a strong character and resilience. A principal from the 1920s once wrote, “I want to ensure that my students are presentable at a dance but valuable in a shipwreck.” More than a century later, we continue to believe that character and the ability to learn, set one up for a lifetime of positive impact.
Thank you for joining me on this journey through our five new value Pillars at the College and thank you for your ongoing support.
Blessings
